pretty flowers everywhere.
this is a fruit called Açai, made into a sort of pudding. it comes from palm trees, or from the center of palm trees, or from plants that grow by palm trees, something. it's a very new taste. the teacher i help, Miss Denise (pronounced Denizee), brought me some the other day to class. true to the form of a multiple-intelligence teacher, she not only gave it to me to eat, she wrote the word and pronunciation on the board, and then looked up some facts on Wikipedia about the fruit. i obviously didn't read the article she brought up, 'else i'd be able to tell you more about this interesting little gritty purple thing. don't tell her.
here it is with granola.
bridges are my favorite architectural structures. this is seriously the most beautiful i've ever seen. more pics to come of this, as soon as we ride our bikes there to take some.
futbol at the school. the principal asked us to watch third grade recess to see if we could figure out why the kids were fighting. then she suggested we give the teachers some tips on discipline. yeah, right. the last thing i'd ever do is come prancing in to a new school and tell the teachers how to keep their kids in check. that is like going into a woman's kitchen and telling here where to put the dishes. you just don't do it.
payphone. these are everywhere, residential and commercial streets. kind of like Starbucks in the States, but cheaper.
Gabi and her lovely mother.
strong opinions of foreign leaders.
street entertainment.
check all the kinds of mangoes!

Heath, it looks like you are in a world absolutely exploding with color and life. Are you totally pumped to wake up in the morning?! What your favorite 'new' food you've experienced so far?
Those phone booths totally remind me of my mission. There were everywhere and I save almost all of the little cards that we had to use to call people. I love the bridge and I am looking forward to more pics of it. Mangoes- yummy! Acai- one of the healthiest berries/juice there is! Lucky! Pretty flowers as well. Soccer, man you are just really getting it all in!
Wow, it's nice to see that you're enjoying most part of the good stuff we have to offer. There are still a few, like Suco de Cupuaçu, Samba, music, beaches, and so on.
The açaí is actually a quite common fruit that grows in the north area of the country. It's very, very nice, but you haven't tasted the original fruit, which is good. The original flavor is kind of strong, even for us. The bowl stuff sold in Brasília is a mixture of the fruit with Banana, Granola e Xarope de Guaraná, made from another nice plant from the north. You've tasted a soft drink based on Guaraná a few weeks ago, after the Poço Azul adventure, when we were at Erico's house. Way better than Coke, I have to say =D.
And so the Rain period began. You'll see lots of green stuff and flowers around town. Nice place to be this time of the year.
